چکیده

We have detected emission by the CO(5–4) and (6–5) rotational transitions at from the z p 5.7722 0.0006 host galaxy of the SDSS quasar J0927 2001 using the Plateau de Bure Interferometer. The peak line flux density for the CO(5–4) line is mJy, with a line FWHM p 610 110 km s . The implied molecular gas 1 0.72 0.09 mass is M . We also detect the 90 GHz continuum at mJy, consistent with a 10 (1.6 0.3) # 10 0.12 0.03 , 47 K dust spectrum extrapolated from higher frequencies. J0927 2001 is the second example of a huge molecular gas reservoir within the host galaxy of a quasar within 1 Gyr of the big bang. Observations of J0927 2001 are consistent with a massive starburst coeval with a bright quasar phase in the galaxy, suggesting the rapid formation of both a supermassive black hole through accretion, and the stellar host spheroid, at a time close to the end of cosmic reionization. Imaging Atomic and Highly Excited Molecular Gas in a Z=6.42 Quasar Host Galaxy: Copious Fuel for an Eddington-limited Starburst at the End of Cosmic Reionization

We have imaged CO(J=7→6) and C I(P2→ P1) emission in the host galaxy of the z=6.42 quasar SDSS J114816.64+525150.3 (hereafter: J1148+5251) through observations with the Plateau de Bure Interferometer. The region showing CO(J=7→6) emission is spatially resolved, and its size of 5 kpc is in good agreement with earlier CO(J=3→2) observations. In combination with a revised model of the collisional ...

On the Role of the Environments and Star Formation for Quasar Activity

We investigate the host galaxy and environment properties of a sample of 400 low z (<0.5) quasars that were imaged in the SDSS Stripe82. We can detect and study the properties of the host galaxy for more than 75% of the data sample. We discover that quasar are mainly hosted in luminous galaxies of absolute magnitude M − 3 < M(R) < M∗1 and that in the quasar environments the galaxy number densit...

Probing the Nature of the Massive Black Hole Binary Candidate Sdss J1536+0441

We present an imaging study of the black hole binary candidate SDSS J1536+0441 (z ≈ 0.3893), based on deep, high resolution VzK images collected at the ESO/VLT. The images clearly show an asymmetric elongation, indicating the presence of a companion source at ∼ 1 (≈ 5 kpc projected distance) East from the quasar. The host galaxy of the quasar is marginally resolved. We find that the companion s...

A Molecular Einstein Ring at Z=4.12: Imaging the Dynamics of a Quasar Host Galaxy through a Cosmic Lens

We present high-resolution (0.3) Very Large Array (VLA) imaging of the molecular gas in the host galaxy of the high redshift quasar PSS J2322+1944 (z = 4.12). These observations confirm that the molecular gas (CO) in the host galaxy of this quasar is lensed into a full Einstein ring, and reveal the internal dynamics of the molecular gas in this system. The ring has a diameter of ∼1.5′′, and thu...

Smm J04135+10277: a Candidate Early–stage “wet–dry” Merger of Two Massive Galaxies at Z=2.8

We report interferometric imaging of CO(J=3→2) emission toward the z=2.846 submillimeterselected galaxy SMMJ04135+10277, using the Combined Array for Research in Millimeter-wave Astronomy (CARMA). SMMJ04135+10277 was previously thought to be a gas-rich, submillimeterselected quasar, with the highest molecular gas mass among high-z quasars reported in the literature. Our maps at ∼6× improved lin...
